The Nie Nie Bike

The lovely Stephanie Nielson blogged about this very cool bike a couple weeks ago and I was immediately smitten with it. I can just picture myself on an idyllic bike ride with my little girl.

Please visit their site and check them out. Best of all, they are a local Utah company and it's always a good idea to support our local businesses.

New Running Shoes

I need a new pair of running shoes. My current pair are old and very worn. Luckily Shop Smart Magazine has done all the leg work for me. In their September 2009 issue they featured a test they did on 203 pairs of shoes to determine which are the best. In the end, Asics and Ryka took the top honers with the Asics GEL-150TR getting the highest ratings for cushioning and fit. It is a good price point too - only $68. I'm going to try a pair this week. Thanks Shop Smart Magazine!

I Heart This Popcorn. Seriously.

Ok, it's been like a month since I've posted. I know. Sorry Mom and Janaan. You're assets to the Cheaping Girl's Organization. I promise I have lots to post about, I just have a new job. But I digress... Every night as I sit down to watch TV at 1:00 AM, I have a bag of this popcorn.

But let's go back to the beginning of my obsession. My boyfriend has a serious thing for cracked black pepper. You could say he's a bit of a pepper fiend. So I picked this up because I thought he would like it and it didn't disappoint either of us. I love this popcorn. I love this popcorn so much I want to bring it home to meet my parents. The butter tastes natural and fresh, like it came out of a real p0pcorn machine. And the pepper is PERFECTION. Just the right bit of kick. Perfect for a pre-bedtime snack. Why am I watching TV at 1:00 AM? Well, that's for another post...

Orville Redenbacher's Natural Buttery Salt & Cracked Pepper Popcorn. Go buy some right now.

Too Cute Patent Boots

I dropped by my local Walmart the other day and to my surprise I found these darling patent leather boots for girls. "You know patent leather really does something for an outfit".....that's been my mantra for years.

I had to pick them up in assorted colors for my grand daughter who is starting kindergarten. They will look so cute with dresses, leggings, and jumpers. I also think having lacie socks pulled up to sit on top of the boot will be sweet.

Faded Glory Girls' Alex Patent Boots - $10.00 for this price get all the colors!

Lovely Leggings and Shirts

Sometimes while looking for layering pieces for girls you start thinking "what has happened to the basics?" For some reason everything has a screen print - High School Musical, or Miley Cyrus on the front. I'm not a fan of anything like that whatsoever (I don't think I have used that word much....whatsoever. It's a great word.)

The Walmarts came through again with very inexpensive solutions. Because with kids it's only a matter of time (very short) before they rip, stain, or grow out of their clothes.

Girls Cap - Sleeve Blouse - $9.00. Finding a white blouse is a miracle!

Girls' Short - Sleeve Polo Shirt - $6.00. Available in assorted colors.

Girls' Cap - Sleeve Tee - $3.50. Available in assorted colors.

These leggings are great under just about anything - I just with they had Navy!

Faded Glory Girls' Leggings - $5.00

"Mad" About Dresses

For the past two weeks I have been catching up on the first two seasons of Mad Men. It's addicting...not the storyline as much as the fashion!

Ever since I started watching I have been craving feminine silhouettes, big skirts, hats, elbow length gloves and more. It made me pull out all my skirts and start wearing them in full force. I am now looking at girly dresses that I can add to my wardrobe that have a retro look, but with modern flare. I don't want to look like I'm dressing up for Halloween.

Make Your Skinny Life Happen

I recently discovered these Truffle Bars by Skinny Cow. I have been trying to cut down on my calorie intake lately but I miss having a sweet treat every now and again. These are amazing with only 100 calories, 2.5 grams of fat, and 3 grams fiber! Take that you old bran muffin! I'd much rather get my fiber from ice cream.

They have lots of low calorie - low fat varieties.

For only $20...

You can have your American Girl Doll's hair professionally re-braided at the American Girl Store Hair Salon. Thanks Auntie Natalie for taking her all the way to Chicago with you.

Words to Live By

May today there be peace within. May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be. May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others. May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that has been given to you. May you be content with yourself just the way you are. Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love. It is there for each and every one of us.

Good-Bye Six Pack!!

I received this email from a close friend of mine and wanted to share it with you!

So, this morning before I started swinging the hammer, I took a quick ride down the street to a little bakery my friend Stacey turned me on to -- Tulie --two doors down from Trio. As many of you know, baked goods are my (not so) secret food lust! (and Dorritos and diet Coke...) and I have to keep an eye on it so I don't loose the six pack abs I've been working on forever (well, it's down to a 1 pack lately, but whatever). I digress... As I ate (tried not to inhale) my pain au chocolat, today, I was struck by how similar in product quality this place is to "Tartine...." -- which is SF institution -- wildly successful.

That said, this place holds its own against Tartine, and in fact the owner spent a few days observing that very bakery. They have a little cafe area inside AND a great little patio/court yard to the East between the buildings and serve lunch items, too. Most of you probably already know about Tulie, but in case you don't, and you're in the mood for a gougere, or a chocolate brioche, or croissant, etc.... -- or you need a delicious and amazing cake at the last minute -- please check these people out! (It adds to the allure, for me, that Tulie was started by a woman who holds a Phd in clinical psychology and left that career to start this, with no formal bakery training -- just smart, intuitive on food, and clearly gets it... ). Very cool.

We Love Us Some Shoes.....

We Cheaping Girls love shoes. We love expensive ones and less expensive ones. We try to get the bulk of our trendier shoes at a bargain price otherwise we could be featured on a television expose about people who are compulsive shoe buyers who ruin their lives by spending way too much. Or something like that.

Like we have said so many times before, one of the best places to buy trendy shoes at a steal of a deal is Ross. Yup it's Ross again! We especially like some of the brands they carry on a regular basis: Dollhouse, Rampage, and Wanted. These brands sell for at least $50 and up in other stores and on the web, but at Ross they are always $14.99 or less!

Pictured below are some styles we have found recently at the numerous Ross stores we frequent on a regular basis. "Regular basis" is the secret. Ross can not be conquered by infrequent visits. You gotta go all the time for the best stuff.

Dollhouse Eda - People have been asking us where we got these sandals all summer.
Dollhouse Lenzo - you can afford assorted colors at bargain prices.
Dollhouse Ramira - these look like you are off to Florida or a cruise - neither of which we are doing any time soon, but these make us feel like we might be.....

Rampage Harmonie2.

Wanted Triple Strap Mary Jane High Heel - You can't have enough Mary Jane style shoes!

Wanted Split Broad Cut Out Mary Jane.

Wanted Two Tone Mary Jane - Purchased these yesterday - now we need something to wear with them!

Little Party

Last weekend we had a little party in celebration of our baby. We had quite a food spread with lots of yummy options. One of salads served was a new recipe we got from The Pioneer Woman. It is a Sundried Tomato Pasta Salad that we have since made twice in the last week. Try it. You'll love it.

Cheaping Without Knowing It!

At the beginning of May when I was 9 months pregnant, I was desperate for a new dress. We had a wedding coming up, along with regular Sunday church and I just wasn't fitting anything! I found this dress at Ross for only $14.99. It was really cute, it fit and I've even worn it postpartum.

Well, imagine my surprise when I opened my new Sundance Catalog this week and saw this dress for $198.

The color scheme is the only difference between the two. I'm now feeling super good about my Ross purchase.

Dollartree Find - Lip Gloss

I love to find fun make-up at the dollar store and try it out. I buy lots of failures, but yesterday I found a little gem. It's a discontinued lip gloss from Sally Hansen.

Maximum Plumping Lip Treatment. I bought Clearly Lovely(a clear gloss) and Clearly Heartfelt (a plum gloss). It doesn't plump much at all. It has a minty feel, not the annoying burn some plumping products give you. But I do think the color and shine makes your lips look fuller. I have tried Mac Lip Glass and this is very much like it but not as sticky. And it's a dollar! I'm on my way back to Dollartree today to stock up!
