Ask The Cheaping Girls - A Fashion Baby Challenge

Our friend Amy in San Francisco is expecting her first baby this Fall (it's a girl!!) and we couldn't be more excited!

She wants her nursery to reflect her funky, happy, laid back style and to stay away from the room looking too "babyish". We totally agree, some things are just too cutesy for us too.

Amy's design influences are African, Oriental, or anything with a Hippie vibe (she IS from San Francisco after all!).

Below are some of my ideas around each of your design influences. Natalie said that you have your car seat already, and really, that is all you need to at least get home with the baby! Relax and have fun creating this new room for your home!

XOXO,

Janaan

Shabby Chic

As Amy already has some wrought iron items that include a detailed dresser and night stand, this option is for matching those pieces with a crib made of the same material. Using these types of pieces gives the room an elegant overall effect.

Asian Inspired

With fun bright colors, and some well placed accessories, you can blend a muted Asian style with contemporary nursery furnishings.

A Little Bit Rock & Roll

I love this poster playing off of the old English 'Keep Calm, Carry On' WWII poster . And even though this room is pink, when done in tie-dye and hot colors, it can transition from baby into tween.

Safari-Esque

I tend to stay away from "theme" rooms where everything is too matchy matchy. Here by combining different styles in the same color palette and using safari accessories, you can create the feel without going overboard. And if you ever want to change it up, just switch out the detail pieces and go for something new.

A Bit Bohemian

Here is a bird theme with a lovely bohemian flair. I love the handmade quality of this mobile and it's something no one else will have. The colors are bright but also look a bit more grown-up.
